Association Briefing January 2019 Image

I hope this reaches you all following a merry and restful Christmas break, and I appreciate being given the opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year on behalf of the Association.

Here at HQ we have been working to prepare ourselves for the initiatives we will undertake afresh or continue with during the next 12 months and beyond; the first of which will be for all of the Regional AGMs to be attended by a Presidential or Executive Team member to further support our regional volunteers over the coming year.

January will be a pivotal month in respect of our relationship with the Society of Operational Engineers as we undertake training alongside our panel members in order to be fully skilled in the delivery of the Engineering Council qualification of CEng with other grades of registration to follow. This relationship will be key as we work together to service members’ needs and we will be writing to you all shortly in order to keep you updated with the progress we are making.

I personally am starting a new chapter as I have the pleasure of beginning to work with volunteer panel members in respect of the provision of our peer review interviews. This serves as a positive reminder of the impact our members can have, not only within our own organisation, but with those they interact with across the sector as a whole and those looking to join us.

With this in mind the wellbeing of our members and the wider industry need to be at the forefront of our minds as, in an ever-changing industry, who knows what the Building Engineers of the future will face next year, in five years, even ten and beyond. These thoughts along with the feedback from our 2018 Annual Conference have gone in to producing the outline topics for our next conference which will take place on Thursday 03 and Friday 04 October 2019.

The theme of the conference will be Achieving Professional Excellence and the event will feature the return of Reverend Kevin Fear whose day two keynote address at the 2018 event met with amazing feedback and a call from many attendees who wanted to hear more. We are delighted that Kevin is the first speaker to be announced and we look forward to building an engaging and informative programme based on the feedback of the attendees at last year’s events and our wider membership.

I am also very proud to announce the launch of our Regional Conference Programme for 2019 which will see 16 events take place across the UK and ROI in conjunction with the hard-working volunteers from your local regional committees. Whilst the HQ team work tirelessly in ensuring these events take place this could never be achieved without the support of our committee members and, once again, I want to take this opportunity to thank them for all of their continuing efforts as we enter a new year with new opportunities. Together we make a strong team and we are always looking for like-minded individuals, so if you can spare any time, no matter how little, to contribute please contact to register your interest and we will put you in touch with your local Regional Chairman.

Finally, by the time you read this we will be embarking on the final stage of our Board Election process and I would encourage those of you entitled to vote to exercise this right. Shaping the future of this organisation, the Board represent you, the members, as we discuss future strategic growth and development, service delivery and continue to strive for greater recognition and influence at the highest level. A link to view the nominated candidate biographies will be available alongside the voting information in an e-mail which you will receive from UK Engage, our independent provider during the next few days. In order to ensure you have the correct access to cast your vote, please ensure that we are holding the correct e-mail contact information for you.

I wish you all the very best for your endeavours throughout 2019 and look forward to seeing many of you at one of our future events.
