The CABE Certificate in Building Control has been the foundation of many professional careers and is essential learning for those working in Building Control and those designing to meet the Building Regulations. Where possible the course includes real-life examples, theoretical calculations and considerations for design and plan assessment as well as features to consider during site inspection. The course has been revised to take account of recent changes and the format has been changed to a six-day course to provide intensive learning and minimise time away from the work environment.
Week Two Consists of:
Day 4 – Part B - Fire Safety & Part J
This day will look at the principles of fire development and spread within buildings and consider the minimum standards to ensure the health and safety of those in and around buildings as well as considering provisions for fire-fighting. This day will also include consideration of the regulatory standards for heat producing appliances and the storage of fuels.
Day 5 – Parts K, M & E
This day will look at the minimum standards set by Parts K and M of the Building Regulations in relation to access, circulation and safety. You will also gain an understanding of the review of the minimum standards set by Part E of the Building Regulations in relation to sound insulation. This course will also examine in detail the guidance given in the Approved Documents and possible alternatives given in British Standards and other guides.
Day 6 – Parts L, F, G, Q & R and Space Standards
This day will look at the minimum standards set by Parts F, G, & L of the Building Regulations in relation to ventilation strategies and, water efficiency, sanitary provision, and energy conservation. The course will also examine in detail the guidance given in the Approved Documents and the calculations required to demonstrate compliance. It will also consider secondary guidance such as the ventilation compliance guides and possible alternatives given in British Standards.
This seminar will also feature Building Regulation Part Q, R and Space Standards. From October of 2015 a new minimum standard of security for domestic premises was introduced as Part Q of the Building Regulations. By learning about this standard, you will be introduced to the measures to protect against burglary by focusing on the construction of windows and doors.
Although now technically a Building Regulation there is an optional National Housing Standard relating to minimum space in dwellings. You will gain an understanding of minimum overall dwelling sizes, minimum bedroom sizes, provision for storage and minimum headrooms.
In a further widening of the scope of regulations beyond health and safety, Part R relates to the ability of premises to receive high speed internet connections and you will receive full guidance on this new regulation.
This course can be taken as individual days, for those wishing to specialise in key areas or seeking to improve their understanding of particular parts, or it can be undertaken in two blocks a month apart. To receive the Certificate in Building Control Weeks One and Two must be completed.
