Fires travelling through cavities can cause a fire to spread throughout a building. This presents problems to building occupants and firefighters alike.
The prevention of fire spread through cavities and concealed spaces must be achieved and prosecution may follow if adequate protection has not been provided to stop the spread of fire in this way.
In this webinar, Garry White sets out the requirements of the Building Regulations and the recommendations from Approved Document B, Volume 2 (2006) for the Building Regulations for cavity barriers in external walls.
The webinar will also explore:
- The provision of cavity barriers in an external wall
- Exclusions to the provision of cavity barriers in an external wall
- The period of fire resistance recommended for cavity barriers
- What materials can be used to provide a fire-resistant cavity barrier
- Appropriate fixings for cavity barriers
- Discuss the terms cavity barrier and fire barrier
- Provide examples of cavity barrier use
- Penetrations through the external wall cavity
Garry will explain how cavity barriers work and emphasise that the selection of the correct material for the wall build-up is key to providing fire safety protection to cavities in an external wall. There will be time for questions and answers during the webinar.
