Event Summary

Book NowWebinar Wednesday!

Join us at 8am for an interactive webinar presented by Dr Stephanie Wray, President of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.

Most developers have a story about how their project was delayed by a finding of great crested newts or other protected species on site.  If you read a red-top tabloid, you might believe that wildlife is costing millions in delays to construction projects and lost opportunities every day.  But how real are these issues, and how easy are they to avoid?  In this webinar, Stephanie Wray sets out some of the background to protection of the natural environment.

  • What are the key legal issues I need to be aware of?
  • When is a survey necessary?
  • How are impacts mitigated?
  • What are the seasonal constraints and how do I avoid delays?
  • What is meant by net gain?
  • Why does this all matter?

Stephanie will give examples of where good design and programme/project management have delivered outstanding outcomes for both clients and the natural environment, and lessons learned where projects haven't gone so well.   Looking ahead, Stephanie will advise on the direction of travel of environment policy in the light of Brexit and other policy drivers and will outline what we might expect in the next five years.  There will be time for questions, sharing experiences, a surgery for current problems with wildlife, and general wildlife-related therapy as required.

Dr Stephanie Wray is a consultant ecologist and environmental planner with 25 years' experience in assessing and mitigating the effects of development on the natural environment.  She currently holds non-executive roles at Tyler Grange and Biocensus, and is the President of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.  Stephanie is an expert in solving problems relating to protected species and development having, in 2011, received the Mammal Society Medal for her work on protected species mitigation, as well as quite a lot of wine from happy clients.  Although she very firmly identifies as an ecologist, she would like you to know that she does not have a beard, rarely wears sandals (and definitely not with socks) and drives a diesel landrover.

Our webinars are interactive and offer you the opportunity to ask questions. If you've got any questions that you'd like to send to us in advance, please get in touch
