As I write this article I am readying myself for a whirlwind tour of ten of the 12 UK and Ireland regions during January and February. These visits will allow me not only to represent our President and Chief Executive whilst hey continue the sterling work with our International Chapters in Asia, but to ensure we have an early steer on assistance which may be required by our hardworking volunteers on the regional committees.
I will attend AGMs during this time and look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in order to give an overview of 2017’s achievements and to consider where 2018 will take us as we continue to focus on our ethos of developing professionals, raising standards and sharing knowledge.
With this in mind I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on our achievements from the past 12 months, expanding on John’s commentary in January’s issue, and am pleased to say that 2017 was full of so many highlights.
We have seen growth internationally and continue to establish new chapters in exciting areas such as mainland China, New Zealand and the USA, with the future looking bright and many other countries looking to begin their journey with the CABE.
We have seen record numbers of students joining us from accredited courses as we continue to look for opportunities to engage with them in order to work with them as they move on to the next grade of membership with us.
We will review this student journey alongside our regional committees during the next Regional Officers’ Training and Induction Day as to how this can be achieved more effectively, and will also cover a number of topics looking to raise the profile of the Chartered Association and engage further with our members. I would be interested to hear from any current student members in terms of their expectations of their membership and any areas in which you feel we could enhance our current offerings.
Further visits to the regions will also take place in February, when our Chief Executive Officer will be delivering a presentation directly to members offering an update on our ongoing discussions with the Engineering Council in respect of becoming a Licensed Member and the imminent EGM via which this decision will be made.
These events will offer members the unique opportunity to receive all of the information in a face-to-face environment and to ask any questions which they require answers to ahead of casting their vote.
Details of all events are listed here and booking is highly recommended.
Whether it be at your local AGM, Regional or National Conference, or at one of the excellent local CPD presentations, I very much look forward to hearing all of your helpful suggestions and new ideas as we collectively look to take the Chartered Association to the next level in 2018.
