I am delighted to be able to offer you an overview via this briefing from our Regional Officers Training and Induction Event which took place on Monday 27 March 2017, at headquarters in Northampton. This annual event offers all Regional Chairmen, Secretaries and Treasurers the opportunity to discuss the initiatives, opportunities and aspirations for the Association for the coming year and to explore in greater detail the services offered to and by our UK and Ireland regional network.
With all but one region represented at this event, a busy agenda took us firstly on a short journey to reflect on what has been another year of growth and progress for both our regions and the CABE. As we move forward to what will come next during the remainder of 2017 and beyond, it is clear that we will continue with the vital initiatives based around further engagement with our members both on a local and national level; this meeting allowed further exploration of how this can be achieved. As a collective we continue to search for opportunities allowing us to raise our Association’s profile amongst the wider community. With this in mind, discussions were undertaken surrounding the launch of our new Academic Partner Scheme which will replace the existing Academic Affiliate Membership later this year.
The new scheme allows our work with Universities and Colleges to continue and grow as we invest more time and resource towards strengthening links with educational establishments. This will have a positive effect in respect of our University Accreditation Programme both in the UK and internationally, allowing the Regional Development Team and Regional Committees to embark on building further relationships with course directors, leaders and students in a bid to make the Chartered Association of Building Engineers the professional body of choice for those young people looking to progress their education and go on to take up a career within the built environment. The delivery of Continuing Professional Development remains a strong focus for all regions and, with this in mind, we will also embark on the launch of a new CPD Accreditation Programme which will enable the badging of CPD as CABE Accredited for the first time. Please do keep an eye on our ever-changing CABE website for further information on all of these launches.
In a twist on the usual agenda, we invited our Digital Services Specialist, Katie Di Stefano, to present a session highlighting how ‘Raising your Business Profile in a Digital World’ can be a beneficial skill to any forward thinking business; this is yet another new HQ initiative and further information can be found on pages 32-33 of our Journal.
A key focus during the day was to maximise on engagement with you, our members and a key tool developed to assist in the accomplishment of this objective has been the adaptation of the buildeng and designeng regional conference model.
This year will see us run approximately 12 regional conferences to ensure the delivery of high-quality engaging CPD alongside industry-related exhibitions. These events offer us the unique opportunity to reach out and interact with even more of our own members and to have the opportunity to really sell ourselves to non-members in a bid to continue to grow our Association.
Our most recent event was held in the Southern Region in Ashford, Kent, and I’m delighted to report that this was once again delivered to a packed room of delegates; indeed, like many of our events, this sold out four weeks prior to running and for the next event we will be looking for a larger venue. During the day it was great to catch up with members of the regional committee who offered invaluable support of the event alongside their regional chairman.
Our last event was held on 26 April 2017 and it seems hard to believe this was the sixth time we have worked with our buildeng team in the South West. The South West event really does optimise where we are in terms of collaborative working with our regions and we look forward to growing both this and all other regional conferences, committees and centres of excellence over the coming years. With this in mind, please do look to support your local event, and trust me when I say they offer excellent value for money. The success of our centre of excellence model continues to gain momentum with several new centres added over the past few months. Established to work in conjunction with their centralised regional committee hub, this simple idea has offered the opportunity to get involved to many members who benefit from localised CPD; and networking and getting involved couldn’t be easier. As a centre of excellence co-ordinator all you need to do is arrive at the venue, welcome the speaker and take a registration list of the attendees. If you can provide us with a photo and write up from the event to further promote this, of course all the better!By working together we achieve so much and my final word has to go to our regional volunteers who on a daily basis really go the extra mile to ensure the progression of the Association and, alongside the HQ team, we continue to reach new heights, and gain praise and recognition, which I believe we deserve. Your assistance remains an asset on which a price cannot be placed, thank you.
