As another membership subscription year passes, the team here have been busy delivering on a range of membership initiatives and ensuring the Association’s proactive friendly approach has been applied supporting members and new members to progress through the membership journey.
Highlights for membership have included:
• The year has seen an increase in overall membership
• An increase in the uptake of professional interviews that have been delivered within CABE head office, regionally and internationally within Asia
• Launch of the USA and Qatar Chapters
• Discussions with further Chapters in India, New Zealand, Canada, USA – Texas, and the Philippines
• A successful upgrades campaign that resulted in over 100 upgrades to ensure members’ grades reflect their experience and competence
• An uptake in membership benefits including the recently launched CABE Advantage discount scheme
• A Company Partner launch has resulted in currently 11 organisations joining
• Uptake of Student membership
• Increased activity focusing on diversity and inclusion
• Increased activity on the CIC 2050 panel.
Recent events, including Grenfell, have resulted in organisations and individuals wanting to demonstrate competency through professional body membership and ensuring their staff are Chartered. This demand has been reflected in the increased number of professional interviews that are being delivered by the membership team and panel members. CABE’s flexible approach has allowed it to provide additional opportunities to become Chartered and meet members’ needs.
Regional buildeng/designeng events, the national conference and exhibitions have provided a successful platform to deliver membership clinics to encourage new members to join and existing members to upgrade. We have also delivered membership clinics at organisations and held one-to-ones to coach members through the membership process. This support has been positively received by our members. Meeting members at such events has allowed CABE to engage and build relationships. The recent Construction Week at the NEC allowed the opportunity to meet with members and non-members, including a long-standing Fellow of CABE, Leon Williams. Leon was pleased to see CABE at the exhibition and provided positive feedback about the Building Engineer publication and the relevance of member benefits.
The recently launched Company Partner scheme has been very successful and a large number of UK and international organisations are now CABE Company Partners and enjoying the benefits. If you would like more information about becoming a CABE Company Partner, contact me or the membership team.
CABE’s global reach is growing daily and discussions with members in four further countries are being held to create new Chapters. Members based in these countries have stated that CABE’s commitment to developing professionals, raising standards and sharing knowledge is in demand locally.
CABE’s commitment to diversity and inclusion has been supported through the membership team attending a number of events throughout the year and myself contributing through the CIC Diversity Panel. CABE is also represented on the CIC 2050 panel that has recently delivered a data collection exercise through a number of professional bodies. The CIC 2050 Panel is excelling in working with young people in the industry and encouraging careers within the built environment.
CABE’s Student membership has enjoyed a steady growth and I have presented Student of the Year awards at a number of educational establishments including Nottingham Trent Universty. I have been proud to present such awards and impressed with the high calibre of students.
Member feedback throughout the year has been very positive. Chartered Members have enjoyed increased earnings, increased credibility and increased business. Members have stated they are happy with the service provided whilst undergoing the Chartered Membership and benefits provided by CABE meet members’ needs.
The coming year will be one of growth, development and engagement as the membership team will be working with organisations, individuals and educational establishments to ensure all non-members are encouraged to join and enjoy the benefits of membership. I would request your support as members to assist in this development and enjoy the rewards of the Member Recruit Member scheme through providing referrals.
We will also be communicating a member benefits survey shortly and would appreciate your feedback as this allows us to ensure the benefits being offered meet members’ needs.
I would like thank all members who volunteer to support CABE and we look forward to working with you.
