At Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) we are committed to supporting our members throughout their career, helping to ensure Building Engineers create a better, safer and more sustainable built environment for everyone.
Given the increasing expectations of all construction professionals to demonstrate ongoing competence, CABE has undertaken a review of all membership grades and related competency frameworks to ensure they meet current sector expectations and are fit for the future. This will enable CABE members to be professionals that warrant the trust that clients and the public have in them.
As you know, CABE is working towards our full license by the Engineering Council and our revised membership grades and competency frameworks reflect the recognition that this will bring and are specifically designed to integrate Engineering Council UKSPEC requirements aligned to our membership standards.
As a result of this review from the 1st January 2020 a revised membership grade structure, including a new grade of membership, linked to new Competency Frameworks will come into force.
These new requirements will not change the membership grade of current members, but all new membership applications and current member upgrades will be assessed for compliance against the new requirements from this date. It is recommended that you read the new competency frameworks and understand how it affects you.
Alongside the competency frameworks, we have also updated the Disciplinary Procedure. This new procedure will be effective from 1st August 2019 and will ensure CABEs disciplinary procedures are fair, transparent and effective. Changes include the formation of a new Professional Conduct Committee; the involvement of lay members, an appointment of an independent lay chair-person; and a move to holding all disciplinary hearings in person and open to the public.
