CABE Statement - Grenfell Tower

CABE Statement - Grenfell Tower Image

"The recent fire at Grenfell Tower is a tragedy and our thoughts are with those affected, their family and friends.

The Association recognises that questions have been raised regarding the fire escape strategy, fire alarm system, omission of sprinklers and recent refurbishment works and whilst it may be too early to determine the exact cause of the fire and factors leading to its development it is clear that the current legislation, guidance and British Standards support the 'stay put' strategy based upon high levels of compartmentation.

In addition it is recognised that there is not statutory requirement to retro-fit sprinkler systems in such buildings when carrying out refurbishment works.

The Association will engage with Government, Local Authorities, Building Control and the industry to review current standards to endeavour to ensure that these terrible events do not reoccur."
