CABE CEO, Dr Gavin Dunn and Business Development Director, Tony Ginda arrived on 25th November 2018 in the evening and were picked up from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) by the Chairman of CABE Malaysia Chapter Isacc Sunder.

A Chapter update briefing was provided by the Chairman of CABE Malaysia Chapter to the CABE CEO and Business Development Director on the schedule of events to come.

26th November 2018
We attended the Joint Building Conference 2 in association with the City Council of Kuala Lumpur (JBC DBKL) at Kuala Lumpur City Hall , Tower 1, Raja Laut Road, Kuala Lumpur.

Upon arrival, we set up the CABE Booth at the entrance to the conference hall and met with conference participants who were interested in becoming CABE members.

At 8.00am, we were invited by the Conference organisers to the VVIP Room to meet up with the Guest of Honour of the Conference, the Minister of Housing and Local Government, YB Puan Hajah Zuride Binti Kamaruddin accompanied by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur YB Dato’ Nor Hisham Bin Ahmad Dahlan, the Chairman of the Building Surveying Division of the Royal Institute of Surveyors Malaysia Retired Brigadier General Mohd Amin Mohd Din, Conference committee members and other members of the City Council 

A fruitful discussion ensued on the need for Building Control between the Minister and the CEO of CABE. Dr Gavin Dunn also explained the British practice of Building Control in the United Kingdom to the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and the Minister.

The delegation were then guided to the Conference Hall for the commencement of the Conference and the welcome speech was delivered by the Chairman of the Conference Brigadier General Mohd Amin Mohd Din and the Mayor of the City Council of Kuala Lumpur YB Dato’ Nor Hisham Bin Ahmad Dahlan.

At the completion of the welcoming speeches, the Conference was officially opened by the Minister.

This was followed by Coffee break where a CABE token was presented to the Minister by CABE CEO Dr Gavin Dunn in the presence of CABE Malaysia Chairman Isacc Sunder Rajan, CABE Malaysia Treasurer Mohd Zahryand and CABE Business Development Director Tony Ginda.

The first speaker for the conference was Dr Gavin Dunn his keynote address on “Building Regulations: A British perspective” was well received by the conference participants.

This was followed by several other papers up until Lunch. Lunch was held at the mezzanine floor of the pre-conference lobby and the cuisine was local. This gave everyone the opportunity to network.

After lunch, we had a short coffee break and the CABE delegation were lead to the Asian International Arbitration Center (AIAC) at Bangunan Sulaiman, Kuala Lumpur for a meeting with the New Director of AIAC Vinayak Pradhan at 3.00pm.

We had a brief introduction with the Director of AIAC and then presented a CABE Token.

A photo session was taken at the lobby of the AIAC with the Director of AIAC. This was followed by a tour of the Arbitration centre state of art facilities and a briefing of the centre’s activities.

After the AIAC visit, the next stop was at the Royal Lake Club for drinks and dinner. The Chairman of CABE Malaysia hosted the drinks and dinner and briefed on the history of the Club.
 
27th November 2018
The meeting started with an introduction by CABE CEO Dr Gavin Dunn and Business Development Director Tony Ginda.

The CABE Malaysia Chapter Committee comprising of members from the academic, business and consultancy arena introduced themselves and a lively dialogue ensued.

At about 10.30am, Dr Gavin Dunn and Tony Ginda proceeded with the Panel training until 1.00pm where the training officially ended.

At the end of the meeting, Dr Gavin Dunn emailed the Malaysia Strategy Notes from Meeting to the Chairman of CABE Malaysia Chapter to be distributed to committee members and to take action
.
There will be a second part training in March next year and the panel members will be notified in due course.
There was a quick lunch at the lobby of the Inter-Continental Hotel before taking the CABE delegation to the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for a courtesy visit.

At CIDB, we were met up with the Senior General Manager, Contractor & Levy Sector, MS Ida Zuraida Mohd Yusoff and other CIDB staff.

The CABE delegation was briefed of CIDB’s role in the Construction Industry and this was followed by Dr Gavin Dunn sharing the British experience in the Construction Industry.

The meeting ended with a better understanding of CIDB and CABE role in the Construction and Building Industry.
The CABE delegation were returned to the Hotel by the Chairman of CABE Malaysia Chapter since Dr Gavin Dunn was leaving for New Zealand later on a mid-night flight. Tony Ginda was to leave for London early the next day.

We bid our goodbyes before parting our ways until we meet again for the upcoming CABE Malaysia Annual Conference on the 18 January 2019.
