Over the past few weeks there have been several minor amendments to the guidance produced in England to support Building Regulations.
Revised guidance has been issued in relation to last year's revised Approved Documents M & G and this week has seen the publication of the new Approved Document R to support regulations which have been introduced and which affect projects from January next year.
In a further widening of the scope of regulations beyond health and safety, Part R relates to the ability of premises to receive high speed internet connections.
Publication of the guidance follows a consultation with the industry and public, and it is satisfying to note that comments made by CABE, in relation to the number of professionals working in building control who will need to be familiar with the new requirements, and the time necessary to understand these, has been significantly increased in the impact assessment which accompanied the proposals.
The new Approved Document R : “Physical Structure for high-speed electronic communications networks” has now been published and can be viewed here.
The Regulations to facilitate this change come into force on 11th May 2016 and all applications after 1st January 2017 will need to meet the new requirement.
