SYKES PUMPS GENERATES DOUBLE PUMP SOLUTION FOR BATTERSEA POWER STATION
Pump hire specialist, Sykes Pumps, played a vital role in the early construction phases of the eagerly anticipated transformation of the iconic Battersea Power Station. Reconstruction of the iconic towers that punctuate the four corners of the building involved cutting equipment to remove the existing chimneys and Sykes Pumps’ original brief was to provide 6” Super Wispaset 150 pumps to dampen down and cool the cutting equipment during this delicate process.Sykes Pumps provided the pumps to dewater the site, along with all necessary hose and Silt Away filtration tanks to ensure that water was discharged into the drains with all sediment removed, in line with environmental best practice.

STUDOR DEVELOPS UNIQUE SOLUTION FOR UNIQUE BUILDING
Local council concerns of the perceived risks from SARS and other airborne viruses resulted in an innovativenew drainage solution at the iconic O2 arena. Greenwich Council dismissed the option of using open stacks within the tented area of this London landmark, so the UK’s best plumbing engineers stepped in to resolve the issue. Studor, with their knowledge of drainage ventilation systems, worked with ME Engineers and a team at Heriot-Watt University. The Studor System solution incorporated Studor Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) coupled with P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator) units. The P.A.P.A. acts like a shock absorber, dissipating pressure waves and stopping them bouncing around the plumbing system, eliminating the need for roof penetrations.

CONCRETE AND COMPOSITES: A POWERFUL PARTNERSHIP
Precast concrete trench systems are used extensively in infrastructure to provide protection for and easy access to underground services. Fibrelite covers weigh a fraction of concrete or metal alternatives and offer load ratings up to F900. This means all trench covers can be safely manually removed by two people no matter what the load rating. The composite material is inert, eliminating deterioration from corrosion and extreme temperatures in service (including freeze-thaw). Fibrelite has formed a number of strategic partnerships with major precast manufacturers in Europe and the USA to provide a range of covers to fit each company’s trench layouts.
