KEYHOLE PIPE SURGERY RESTORES HOSPITAL DRAINAGE SYSTEM
Drainage engineers from Lanes Group plc have carried out a programme of no-dig drain repairs at a primary care hospital, restoring the system to good health.
In a process akin to keyhole surgery on the human body, they inserted 52 ‘patch liners’ in underground pipes at East Cleveland Primary Care Hospital.
Drainage teams based at the Lanes depot at Stockton-on-Tees carried out the drain rehabilitation work on behalf of Team Build Construction without causing disruption to hospital services. Lanes had previously carried out a full-site CCTV drainage survey, providing details reports backed by HD-quality video clips, gathered with pushrod and robotic cameras, which showed the extent of damage.
ALL-INCLUSIVE BUILDING MANAGEMENT WITH THE EAGLEHAWK NX – the BACnet controller from CentraLine
CentraLine, Honeywell’s partner brand, introduces an all-inclusive new edition of the freely programmable BACnet controller EAGLEHAWK. Its high-performance capability makes EAGLEHAWK NX ideal for the control of heating, ventilation and air conditioning applications as well as for the integration of other building applications such as lighting, shading, and much more. It is built on the CentraLine Niagara eXtended platform, is flexible in installation and easy and secure to use via browser.
The EAGLEHAWK NX now has an optional Human Machine Interface that meets specifications for network-independent emergency operation, embedded Input/Output modules that minimise installation effort, and dual Ethernet ports that save the costs for network switches and cabling.

APPLICATIONS FOR PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS ON THE RISE
Technologies, such as solar thermal, ground or water source heat pumps and harvesting waste heat, are worthy of consideration for many new residential and mixed-use developments. High performance plate heat exchangers are ideally suited for different applications within such schemes. For a recent project drawing water from the Thames, a Stokvis bare plate heat exchanger was installed to transfer heat from the river water to water source heat pumps. Plate heat exchangers can similarly operate on the input/primary side for projects drawing waste heat from power plans and industry, or as an interface where individual buildings connect into the heat mains of a district heating scheme.

TOWER BLOCKS’ FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS RAISED TO TOP CATEGORY PROTECTION WITH AICO
Watford Community Housing has completed the installation of Grade D, LD1 fire detection systems in two 16-storey tower blocks using Aico Multi-Sensor Fire Alarms and accessories, wirelessly interconnected with Aico’s award-winning RadioLINK+ RF technology. Domestic Fire Alarm installation is guided BS 5839-6:2013 which clearly identifies both Grades of alarm system to use and Categories of protection. Grade D is the most common and requires one or more interlinked mains powered alarms, each with an integral stand-by supply. LD3 and LD2 are the most common categories, but Watford Community Housing has chosen the highest category, LD1, for the two tower blocks.
ICOM PoC FULL DUPLEX RADIO SYSTEM, NATIONWIDE COVERAGE OVER 4G/LTE MOBILE PHONE NETWORK
Icom’s new PoC (Push-to-Talk Over Cellular) radio system allows you to communicate with your two-way radio system over a 4G/LTE closed network. Now you can enjoy licence-free nationwide coverage for your business without the use of repeaters thus reducing the cost of infrastructure and maintenance cost of a wide area radio network. Icom’s new PoC radio system provides full duplex nationwide area communication using a 4G/LTE closed, private network and instantaneous communication with PTT operation. The PoC radio system will fall back to a 3G network if 4G is unavailable. The closed system will operate from a private LTE mobile data network providing an extra level of security.
ACT SMART AND SAVE THE DATE
GEZE UK will demonstrate some ‘joined up thinking’ when it takes part at this year’s Smart Buildings Show (7-8 November 2018) at the Barbican, London. Its stand, F3, Hall 2, is a third bigger than last year and will feature the latest integrated products that can form part of intelligent building networks. By using smart building interfaces such as the GEZE Cockpit, IQ box KNX or the IO 420, modular solutions can be applied to achieve natural ventilation and climate control, security and fire safety. In turn, they can be integrated into building management systems which ‘talk’ to each other for complete control – often remotely. Using GEZE’s range of automatic door and window systems, these ‘hubs’ can transform premises into smart buildings – making them more pleasant environments in which to live and work – conditions that help people feel more happy, healthy and productive. Said GEZE UK managing director, Kaz Spiewakowski: ‘Our presence at the UK’s leading dedicated smart building event will be bigger and better this year. We have some ground-breaking products to demonstrate and in GEZE UK’s 30th year, we wish to make our presence felt and become firmly established as the ‘go to’ supplier for those looking to create the next generation of buildings.’
