Darren Burrell

Darren has over 20 years’ experience in both Quantity Surveying and Building Control, giving him an insight into managing construction projects and processes from end to end. He has worked in both the public and private sector on a range of high profile projects and is a Chartered Member of both CABE and RICS.

He started his career as a Quantity Surveyor working in both the public and private sector on a range of high-profile projects, followed by a move to gain further construction sector exposure through experience and qualifications in Building Control which means that Darren can bring significant added value to his clients.

In 2004 he moved into the Building Control sector, initially working for Breckland District Council in Norfolk as an Assistant Building Control Surveyor. On becoming fully qualified with the Association of Building Engineers he progressed quickly through to a Senior Building Control Surveyor position.

He joined the Commercial Building Control team of the NHBC as a Commercial Surveyor in 2007 where he was responsible for several major clients and projects mainly in East Anglia, London and the South East corner of England. His clients varied from small architectural practices to large contractors and developers working on a variety of commercial and mixed-use schemes. From 2016 he worked as a Senior Surveyor within the NHBC Eastern Area Technical Team managing mainly large, complex residential and mixed-use projects in East Anglia.

He is now a Special Projects Manager at jhai London Building Control where he works on a range of projects from a Building Control perspective, mainly in the capital but also across all of England and Wales. He is also part of the senior team actively engaged with business development and strategy plus ensuring his key clients are satisfied.

Darren is an ambitious, reliable and technically sound construction professional. He has a positive, professional and committed approach to his career and continually strives to develop his knowledge and skills.

He has been an Ordinary Member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineer’s Eastern Region Committee since January 2014 where he promptly volunteered to set up a very successful CPD ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Norwich which provides free CPD to local CABE members on a monthly basis, which he continues to organise and facilitate.

In supporting the CABE and its members as a Board Director he intends to continue to promote the many education/training opportunities available as a CABE member plus the benefits of career development and the ability to achieve personal potential through the Association.
